Man arrested in San Diego linked to 2012 Las Vegas homicide

A man who police accuse of fatally shooting someone two years ago was found in San Diego and brought back to Las Vegas on Thursday.

Jessie Arredondo, 32, was the suspect in a shooting near Owens Avenue and Pecos Road in August 2012. North Las Vegas police found Daniel Garcia at El Paso Market with gunshot wounds. He later died at University Medical Center.

Eyewitnesses and surveillance footage show three men entering the market. Two of them, including Arredondo, left and confronted Garcia outside the store. Arredondo took out a handgun and shot Garcia several times, police said. The three men fled the scene.

Police also reported that prior to the shooting, one of the men asked Garcia, “But where are you from?” When Garcia answered “Blythe,” one of the men shot him multiple times. The three men ran away.

Metro gang officers joined North Las Vegas police in the investigation and were able to identify the three men. Eyewitnesses weren’t able to clearly pick out all three men from photo line-ups, but police found enough evidence to think that Arredondo committed murder with a deadly weapon, North Las Vegas police said.

Arredondo was arrested in San Diego on the murder charge, according to the Clark County district attorney’s office. He was transported to Las Vegas and booked into Clark County Detention Center on charges of murder, unlawful acts of financial responsibility and failing to stop at a red light.
