Man dead after being struck by vehicle in Henderson

A 91-year-old man died Monday after a car hit him in Henderson about 1 p.m.

The man was walking east across Whitney Ranch Drive — which weaves past residential neighborhoods in between Sunset and Russell roads — and police said he was not in a marked crosswalk. That's when a 49-year-old woman driving a 2008 two-door Chrysler car slammed into him while headed southbound.

The man was transported to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center with critical injuries where he died, police said, and the driver remained on scene.

Though the crash remains under investigation, police said neither speed nor alcohol were factors. Southbound Whitney Ranch was closed for about two and a half hours after the crash.

The coroner's office will release the man's identity once his family has been notified.
