Man dies after Metro-involved shooting in North Las Vegas

A man is dead after a Metro-involved shooting early Saturday morning in North Las Vegas, the Police Department said.

Las Vegas police were called about 3:15 a.m. to a business in the 5000 block of East Craig Road, near Nellis Boulevard, on reports of "a larceny from a person," a Metro release states.

Officers received a description of the vehicle from the person who was robbed and stopped the suspect vehicle on East Cheyenne Avenue, on the Interstate 15 overpass.

Two people in the car were taken into custody while a third person, carrying a handgun, ran from the car, police said.

A police officer chased the man on foot into a desert area and told the him to drop the weapon. During the chase, the officer fired a stun gun at the person, but it was "ineffective," the release said.

When the armed person reached the intersection of Losee Road and East Sharp Circle, he turned toward the officer with the gun in his hand. The officer fired multiple rounds, striking the man, police said.

The person who was shot was taken to University Medical Center where he was pronounced dead, the release said.

This was the ninth officer-involved shooting in Metro's jurisdiction this year, and the third fatal officer-involved shooting this month.

The identity of the man who was shot and killed will be released by the Clark County coroner's office. The name of the officer involved in the shooting will be released after 48 hours, per Metro policy.
