Man injured by suspected drunk driver outside liquor store

A man was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries after being struck by a suspected drunk driver in front of his workplace Sunday morning, Las Vegas police said.

Jon Monroe, 37, was hit by a 2005 Chevrolet C3500 while he was standing on the sidewalk in front of his job at the Liquor Outlet at 8645 S. Rainbow Blvd., near Wigwam Avenue, about 10:20 a.m.

Police said Darby Neagle, 43, was attempting to park and ran the Chevrolet onto the sidewalk and hit Monroe. He was pinned up against the building, Metro Lt. Jeff Goodwin said.

Neagle then backed into an unoccupied Dodge Durango in the parking lot and drove away on Rainbow, police said. The man was forced to stop when police blocked his path.

Police arrested Neagle, who will face charges of driving under the influence and leaving the scene of an accident resulting in substantial bodily harm, police said.

Monroe was taken to University Medical Center in critical condition.
