Man killed by North Las Vegas officer identified

The man who was shot and killed by North Las Vegas police after a chase on Friday morning has been identified by the Clark County coroner’s office.

Kenneth Alan Johnson, 34, died of multiple gunshot wounds after police said they shot him after he pulled out a pellet gun during a foot chase.

Johnson was driving a moped on West Ann Road near Camino al Norte early Friday when police said they attempted to stop him. He refused to stop and the chase turned into a foot pursuit, police said. Johnson then turned to confront police, pulling out the pellet gun that resembled a black semi-automatic weapon, police said.

A 29-year-old North Las Vegas police officer shot and killed him.

Police said that they found a second pellet gun in a bag they recovered and said belonged to him.

Clark County court records show Johnson’s criminal record is extensive and dates back to 1999. Johnson has been convicted on numerous felonies, including theft and evading police.

At the time of his death, Johnson had a bench warrant out for a misdemeanor 2013 drug conviction. He had been on the run since April, according to court documents.
