Man killed by police Tuesday identified

Authorities have identified the man who died Tuesday after three Las Vegas police officers shot at him.

The Clark County coroner's office released the name of Thomas Joseph Mceniry, 32, of Las Vegas on Wednesday.

He died after a confrontation with officers about 2 a.m. Tuesday at an apartment complex near Maryland Parkway and Twain Avenue, police said.

An officer spotted a white Mitsubishi with plates for a different vehicle and tried to pull it over. But the driver refused to stop and ditched the vehicle a short time later around Maryland Parkway and Twain Avenue, Metro Capt. Matt McCarthy said.

The man — later identified as Mceniry — ran into the French Oaks condominium complex, near Katie Avenue and Maryland, and was being escorted out of the complex by a security guard when police arrived.

Police said Mceniry ran away when officers tried to talk to him and repeatedly refused to show his hands. An officer used a Taser, but it didn't work.

Three officers shot at Mceniry when he was seen reaching for a firearm, police said, adding that a gun was found at the scene.

Mceniry died at Sunrise Hospital Medical Center. No officers were injured in the altercation. Police have not released the names of the officers who fired their weapons.
