Man killed in downtown shooting identified

A man slain in a downtown Las Vegas shooting on Friday has been identified.

He is Derek Cooper Jr., 28, according to the Clark County coroner’s office.

Cooper died of a gunshot wound to the chest, the coroner said Tuesday. Where he lives was not immediately known.

Las Vegas police were called Friday night to an apartment in the 200 block of South Sixth Street where they found Cooper dead with multiple gunshot wounds.

A preliminary investigation determined that Cooper was in an argument with two males shortly before the shooting, police said. The pair took off on foot and have not been identified.

Metro did not have new details to provide Tuesday morning.
