Man killed in Friday shooting identified

The man who was shot and killed Friday night at a central valley apartment complex was identified Sunday by the Clark County coroner’s office.

David Hernandez, 28, of Las Vegas, died of a gunshot wound to the chest, according to the coroner.

Police believe Hernandez and 30-year-old Daniel Kelly were arguing about 5 p.m. at the Juan Garcia Gardens complex at 2851 Sunrise Avenue, near Eastern and Stewart avenues, when Kelly shot Hernandez multiple times in the chest.

Police found Hernandez lying in front of an apartment. A neighbor said he saw Hernandez run toward the apartment after he was shot, holding his chest and screaming “My God, My God!” before he collapsed.

Officers followed a trail of blood from the complex parking lot to an apartment where they arrested Kelly. He was injured, possibly by a blade, and was taken to University Medical Center before being booked into the Clark County Detention Center.

Kelly, who is being held without bail, faces charges of second degree murder and giving a false statement to obstruct police officers.
