Man killed in northwest Las Vegas collision identified

The man who died after his van crashed into a power pole in the northwest valley Wednesday night has been identified by the Clark County coroner.

Michael Lemcool, 60, of Las Vegas might have suffered a medical episode before the crash.

He was driving a van in the eastbound travel lanes of Cheyenne Avenue and veered into oncoming traffic on Buffalo Drive about 5:50 p.m., a statement from the Metropolitan Police Department said. The van continued south in the street's northbound lanes briefly before hopping the curb in front of the Rainbow Library and hitting the pole.

Sandra Bradway, 59, a passenger in the van, suffered no injuries and the van had only minor damage, police said.

The coroner hasn't determined Lemcool's cause and manner of death.

The intersection was shut down for a few hours Wednesday while Metro investigated. As traffic was being diverted, another car slammed into the back of a truck near the intersection just before 7 p.m., but Metro Lt. Harry Demetrus said it did "not appear fatal and is unrelated."
