Man killed in officer-involved shooting identified
August 9, 2015 - 10:26 pm
A man fatally shot Friday by Las Vegas police was identified Sunday by the Clark County coroner's office.
Abel Correa, 24, of Las Vegas, was shot dead Friday morning by at least one Las Vegas police officer in a southwest valley home after police said he lunged at an officer with a sharp object.
Correa died of multiple gun shot wounds and his death was ruled a homicide, the coroner's office said.
Metro was originally at the house, in the 6900 block of Berkshire Place near the intersection of Rainbow Boulevard and Tropicana Avenue, in response to a broken window, police said. There, they found Correa hiding in a closet.
When officers opened the closet door, Correa sprung at them with the object, prompting at least one officer to fire, police said.
Correa died that morning after being taken to University Medical Center. No officers were injured.
Friday's shooting was the seventh officer-involved shooting of 2015 in Metro's jurisdiction. The names of the officers involved in the shooting will be released by police.
