Man killed in Saturday motorcycle crash identified

The man killed in a motorcycle crash Saturday afternoon on Interstate 15 was identified by the Clark County coroner’s office on Sunday.

Johnny James Kelly, 29, of North Las Vegas, died when he crashed a motorcycle into a highway barrier on I-15 just south of the Cheyenne Avenue exit, the Nevada Highway Patrol said. It was originally believed that Kelly was a Louisiana resident.

Kelly lost control after a second motorcyclist struck his bike, NHP said. An initial investigation Saturday determined that both motorcyclists were traveling at “a high rate of speed” before the crash.

The second motorcyclist, who did not lose control and whose identity hasn’t been released, was cooperating with investigators, NHP said. It wasn’t immediately clear if charges were going to be filed.

The freeway was closed for more than five hours while NHP investigated.
