Man killed in shooting identified; police call it drug-related

The man who was killed near Swenson Street and Twain Avenue Monday afternoon has been identified.
He is John Cyril Collins, 39, address unknown, according to the Clark County coroner’s office. Collins died from a gunshot wound to the chest.
Las Vegas police responded to an apartment complex in the 600 block of South Royal Crest Circle at 2:14 p.m. after several calls reporting gunshots. Callers told police a man was on the ground.
Upon arrival officers found Collins in the parking lot. He was taken to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center where he died, police said.
According to police, Collins had been in a car with his killer moments before being shot. Police believe the killing was drug related.
Collins and three other people were in a vehicle that drove to the apartment complex, according to police. Collins was getting out of the car when he was shot by someone in the back seat. The person in the front seat got out and stayed with Collins while the other two men fled on foot.
Police said they have not identified any suspects as of Tuesday afternoon.
Collins’ death was the 42nd homicide in Metro’s jurisdiction in 2015.
