Man run over, killed by semi-truck near downtown

A man sleeping under a semi-truck trailer died near downtown Sunday morning when the driver of the truck pulled away, according to Las Vegas police.

Officers responded to 300 N. 6th Street, near Mesquite Avenue, about 10:15 a.m. The accident could have taken place as early at 8 a.m., police said.

A preliminary investigation showed that a 50-year-old man in a parking lot was sleeping under an unidentified white trailer of a semi-truck. The driver of that truck pulled away, killing the man, police said.

It was not immediately known if the driver was aware that anyone was under the vehicle, Metro Sgt. Richard Strader said.

On Sunday morning, Lt. John Liberty, said the man who died was homeless.

Police need help identifying the driver of the truck. Anyone with information is urged to call police at 702-828-3128 or Crime Stoppers at 702-385-5555 and www.crimestoppersofnv.com..
