Man who died after garage fire identified

The man who escaped a garage fire but later died from unrelated injuries has been identified by the Clark County Coroner's office as 76-year-old John Raymond Wilson.

Firefighters responded to reports of a garage fire at 7053 Abbyville Drive near Warm Springs Road and Paradise Road early Monday afternoon. Wilson and an unidentified woman had left the house by the time crews arrived, fire officials said.

Wilson and the woman were transported to St. Rose Sienna, where Wilson was later pronounced dead. According to Capt. John Steinbeck of the Clark County Fire Department, the injuries did not appear to be related to the fire or smoke,

The cause of death is still under investigation and will be released by the coroner's office following an examination of Wilson's body.

The fire was caused by a nail that had gone through a wire, which heated up the wood enough to ignite it, Steinbeck said.

Damages from the fire were estimated at $40,000.
