The man who died after a suspected drunken driver slammed into his car early Tuesday in the southwest valley was identified Wednesday.
Shi Yue Zhang, 61, was driving a 2002 Toyota Corolla and heading south on Decatur Boulevard before the 1:15 a.m. crash, a Metro new release said. As Zhang entered the Russell Road intersection, Kristoffer Leigh, 22, ran a red light while heading west on Russell in a 2005 Cadillac Deville, hitting Zhang.
Zhang was taken to University Medical Center, where he died.
Leigh and passenger Marios Stolidakis, 21, suffered minor injuries. Leigh was arrested on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol resulting in death, the statement said.
Zhang's death was Metro's 15th traffic-related fatality this year.
