Man who kept woman’s body under trailer makes court appearance

The man authorities said killed his ex-girlfriend and hid her body under his home appeared in court in a wheelchair Thursday.

Valentine Kaul’s lawyer, Christy Craig, said he has stage three throat cancer and suffered extensive injuries after the woman he is accused of killing, Angie Simms, threw scalding hot water on his chest.

Kaul, 58, told police he kept Simms’ body had been under the trailer for at least three days before it was found, according to his arrest report.

He faces a charge of first-degree murder charge and is being held at the Clark County Detention Center without bail.

Las Vegas Justice of the Peace Eric Goodman set a preliminary hearing for later this month.

Kaul reportedly quarreled with Simms at his mobile home in the 4600 block of Crystal Peak Drive, near Lamb and Las Vegas boulevards.

Kaul told a friend that Simms had thrown scalding hot water on him and hit him with a skillet, knocking him unconscious, his arrest report said. In court, he appeared to have a bruise just below his left eye.

When Kaul regained consciousness, he punched Simms in the mouth and placed a pillow over her face, police said.

Kaul told police that after he realized Simms was dead, he wrapped her body in trash bags, tied with wire, and dropped her into the crawl space under the trailer through an access panel in the bathroom, the report said.
