Man who pointed knife at Las Vegas police while naked taken into custody

A man who wielded a butcher knife — at times nakedly — from atop a northwest valley roof was taken into Las Vegas police Thursday after a five-hour standoff.

Police took the man, who hasn’t been identified, about 11:30 a.m. after they said he threatened officers with the weapon, near Mariner at Regatta drives, in the Desert Shores area just northwest of Buffalo Drive and Lake Mead Boulevard.

The man ran from officers, jumping walls and throwing rocks at them before finding his way to the top of a house on Secret Harbor Court after police arrived at the scene at about 6:30 a.m. Officers evacuated the surrounding homes, police said.

Police aren’t sure whether the man had any firearms. The man, who at some point disrobed, eventually surrendered. He will undergo a mental evaluation before being charged, Las Vegas police spokeswoman Laura Meltzer said.
