Metro names officers who fired at man near the Stratosphere

Metro has identified the officers who shot a man near the Stratosphere early Saturday morning.

Las Vegas police officers Jeremiah Beckman and Steven Williams, of Metro‘s Tourist Safety Division, have been placed on routine paid administrative leave until officials finish their review of the event.

Beckman, 32, has been with Metro since January 2006. Williams, 38, has been with the force since September 2008.

An employee at Shalimar Hotel Las Vegas, 1401 Las Vegas Blvd. South, called 911 Saturday when a hotel visitor reported that shots had been fired about 12:45 a.m., police said. The employee went to the hotel’€˜s back parking lot and saw a man was sitting on the ground and holding a gun.

When police arrived, Metro said, they saw a man come out of one of the rooms with a gun that he pointed toward them.

The man was hospitalized at University Medical Center, where police said he was in "stable condition" Saturday.
