Motorcyclist killed in Spring Mountain crash

A teen motorcyclist was killed after colliding with a pickup truck Tuesday afternoon.

Las Vegas police spokeswoman Laura Meltzer said officers were called to a shopping center in the 5400 block of Spring Mountain Road about 2:21 p.m.

Detectives with Metro’s accident investigation unit found that a 19-year-old man, riding a 2008 Honda CBR 1000 motorcycle, was traveling west on Spring Mountain Road in the center lane, just east of Lindell Road.

A 2003 Ford F-150 pickup truck was stopped in a parking lot at the exit to Spring Mountain. As the Honda approached the exit, the truck exited, and the man struck the truck.

The rider was thrown from the motorcycle, police said, and sent to University Medical Center, where he later died. The man’s identity will be released by the Clark County coroner’s office once his family has been notified.

The 31-year-old man driving the truck stayed on the scene.

This is the 47th traffic-related fatality in Metro’s jurisdiction in 2014.
