Motorcyclist lane change led to fatal crash, NHP says

An unsafe lane change cost a motorcyclist his life over the weekend, Nevada Highway Patrol said Tuesday.

Roberto Orozco Jr., 21, of Las Vegas, was riding a black Kawasaki sport motorcycle north in the right paved shoulder of U.S. Highway 95, south of South Boulder Highway. Troopers said Orozco cut off a black 2013 Ford F-150 in the right lane.

The right front of the truck hit the left side of the motorcycle. The motorcycle overturned, struck a guardrail and threw the Las Vegas man from the bike before it caught fire. The driver of the F-150 was able to bring the truck safely to a stop, troopers said.

First responders were dispatched to the crash just after 1 p.m. Orozco died a little more than 30 minutes later at Sunrise Hospital Medical Center.

Orozco is the 17th fatality in highway patrol’s Southern Nevada command area this year.
