September 26, 2014 - 3:02 pm
Several traffic lanes on Decatur Boulevard and Tropicana Avenue shut down Friday morning after a pedestrian was struck and critically injured by a car, Las Vegas police said.
The man, who police said was a panhandler in his 40s, was illegally crossing the street when he was hit by a green Hummer at the intersection just after 9 a.m. He was transported to University Medical Center with a potentially life-threatening head injury, according to police.
The 25-year-old woman who was driving the 2006 Hummer H3 stayed on-scene with police.
Lane restrictions persisted for several hours after the crash.
