Names of Metro officers killed in ambush to be added to memorial

The names of two Las Vegas police officers who were slain while on their lunch break in June will be added to memorial rocks Thursday at Police Memorial Park, Metro said Tuesday.

Officers Alyn Beck and Igor Soldo’s names will be engraved on the rocks lining the Southern Nevada Law Enforcement Memorial path. Families of the fallen officers will walk down the pathway during a ceremony at sunset.

Beck and Soldo were shot and killed June 8 while eating lunch at a CiCi’s Pizza. Their killers died later the same day in a standoff with police.

Thursday’s event at Police Memorial Park, 3250 Metro Academy Way, will begin at 7 p.m. and is free and open to the public. The ceremony will end with a release of illuminated balloons at sunset.

The event also will pay tribute to the 34 Southern Nevada law enforcement officers who have died in the line of duty since 1905. Agencies represented include Las Vegas, North Las Vegas and Henderson police, the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency, the FBI, the Nevada Department of Corrections, Union Pacific Railroad, United States Marshal Service and the Nye County sheriff’s office.
