Neighbor’s footage of Summerlin break-in gets over 1M views — VIDEO

A burglary in Summerlin was thwarted Tuesday morning thanks to home surveillance technology and a bold neighbor.

Joseph Mueller, 48, told the Review-Journal that he got an alert on his cellphone warning him of home invaders just before 11 a.m. Tuesday. He checked his surveillance app immediately.

"Sure enough, there was some dudes in my house robbing me," Mueller said.

The first thing he did was call his neighbor, an Air Force veteran with no interest in being in the media spotlight, Mueller said. The neighbor grabbed a camera and went to see what was going on at the Mueller home. The video he made of the intervention has been viewed more than a million times on Facebook since it was posted on Tuesday.

Mueller said his neighbor went up to the home with his dog and the burglars scattered. The footage captures four men running from the home and piling into a white GMC Yukon with no license plates. The driver of the Yukon asks the neighbor where the key to the car is. The neighbor responds that he doesn't have it and then orders his dog to not attack the men.

"He is very brave," Mueller said of his neighbor.

Police had arrived to clear the home by the time Mueller arrived. The family's possessions had been stacked by the front door, but Mueller said they're still working to determine what, if anything, had been stolen.

The Muellers have lived at the home for 21 years without any similar incidents, and they are thankful they live in a tight-knit community.

"In our neighborhood, we watch out for each other," Mueller said.

He hasn't heard back from police yet whether the burglars had been identified or caught.

"It takes a few days from what I understand," he said.

And Mueller said if he had one message for the community, it would be to contact legislators to demand more funding for law enforcement.
