New app will help residents plan for emergencies in Southern Nevada

A new app from Clark County and Las Vegas, North Las Vegas and Henderson can help residents plan for emergencies, the county said in a release.

The Southern Nevada Community Preparedness app, created by the Local Emergency Planning Committee, is available for free on the iTunes and Google Play stores. It provides “need to know” guides on what to do before, after and during floods, earthquakes, wildfires and terrorist attacks, along with information on how to prepare pets for emergencies.

It helps users create emergency plans based on five questions about the number of people and pets in their household and emergencies faced. It will also deliver emergency alerts to phones using push notifications, which are automated messages delivered by the app even when it’s closed, and share their safety status with loved ones via social media.

If a disaster occurs, the Las Vegas Office of Emergency Management can provide users with a map of evacuation routes leading away from the city or toward emergency shelters using the app’s EvacMap.
