NLV police speak to 16-year-old linked to lethal teen shooting

A teenager connected to an early Monday shooting that left a 16-year-old boy dead has spoken with detectives, according North Las Vegas police.

Police named Christopher Moore, 17, as a "person of interest" Monday afternoon. They asked the public for help in finding him.

Moore's lawyer said his client was friends with the boy who was killed. The Clark County coroner's office identified the boy who died as Javeion Willoughby, of North Las Vegas.

Willoughby was found shot inside a home in the 1100 block of Gary Carmena Avenue, near the intersection of Azure Avenue and North Fifth Street, about 2:30 a.m., police said. He died there, medical responders said.

Las Vegas attorney Dayvid Figler, who is representing Moore, told the Review-Journal that the two boys are friends. He characterized Willoughby's death as an accidental shooting.

"We're here to help them sort it out," Figler said of the investigation.

North Las Vegas police, however, are still calling the death a homicide, department spokesman Officer Steven Wiese said.

"Detectives are investigating it right now," Wiese said. "Accidental or not, that's something that comes up during the investigation."

Additional details about Willoughby's death were not immediately provided, including what led to the shooting and what kind of gun was used.

Anyone with information can call North Las Vegas police at 702-633-9111.
