North Las Vegas man accused of killing his baby held without bail

A North Las Vegas man accused of killing his 2-month-old daughter and leaving her in a dumpster was ordered to be held in jail without bail Wednesday.

Judge Kalani Hoo oversaw Mason Henderson's 72-hour probable cause hearing at the North Las Vegas Justice Court. He is in the Las Vegas City Jail.

Henderson, 24, is facing one count each of murder and child endangerment after his daughter, Jessica Henderson, was found in a dumpster behind a Boys and Girls Club in the 4000 block of Allen Lane on Sunday night.

Henderson's fiance had reported the father and daughter missing about 12:30 a.m. that day, police said. The mother had returned to their apartment in the 3800 block of Craig Crossing Drive, near the intersection of Craig Road and Allen Lane, to find their older daughter, who is a year old, alone.

North Las Vegas police tracked Henderson down, they said, after one of his friends reported that he had showed up at his apartment uninvited, claiming he had killed someone and that he needed a place to hide, police said.

The Clark County district attorney has yet to file formal charges against Henderson. He is scheduled to be back in North Las Vegas Justice Court on Aug. 12.
