North Las Vegas man convicted of luring girl for sex

A North Las Vegas man was convicted Wednesday of trying to entice a teenage girl to engage in sexual activity with him, according to a statement from the U.S. attorney’s office.

An undercover Henderson police detective posed as a 14-year-old girl and responded to a Craigslist ad from Sergio Torres, 34, who had said he was a virgin and was searching for a girl who would “take his virginity,” according to the statement.

Torres and the detective exchanged text messages and emails for two weeks. They made arrangements to meet at Sunset Station, where Torres said he had made a room reservation, on March 25, 2013.

According to the statement from the U.S. attorney’s office, Torres was arrested when he arrived at the hotel’s parking garage.

Authorities seized the phone Torres used to send the text messages, a hotel room key, condoms, sex lubricant, lingerie and stockings.

Torres was convicted of one count of coercion and enticement. His sentencing is scheduled for Oct. 6, and he faces a minimum prison term of 10 years.
