Ohio man faces sentencing in fatal Strip hit and run

After Todd Seifert mowed down J. Jesus Andrade in a Las Vegas Boulevard crosswalk, he returned the damaged rental car and flew home to Ohio.
Seifert will be sentenced in Clark County District Court Tuesday morning. The 30-year-old Cincinnati resident pleaded guilty to felony hit and run at his June 18 arraignment, according to court records.
Police found Andrade on the south end of the Strip, near Four Seasons Drive, in the early morning hours of Jan. 31. Andrade was headed to work, according to a fundraising campaign set up for his family. He died from multiple blunt-force injuries at University Medical Center.
The driver of a white sedan fled the scene of the 3 a.m. crash, police said at the time.
Authorities said Monday that Seifert attempted to get the car's windshield fixed. When the damage was too great, Seifert returned the car to Enterprise Rent-A-Car, paid a deductible for the damage and caught a flight back to his home.
The court accepted Seifert's guilty plea and placed him with the state's parole and probation department. It wasn't immediately clear if Seifart has served any time. Local media has suggested that Seifert plans to ask for probation.
Seifert's attorney, listed as Ross Goodman in county court documents, could not be reached.
The victim's wife, Gabriela Rodriguez, also filed a lawsuit against Seifert in June for negligence.
A change in Nevada law requires a sentence of between two and 20 years for hit and runs resulting in injury and death. That law went into effect on Oct. 1 and may not apply to Seifert's months-old guilty plea.
