One person dead after early morning homicide in east valley

Metro is investigating a homicide that occurred early Saturday morning in the east Las Vegas Valley.

Police received a call regarding a homicide at 4:18 a.m., and patrol officers were dispatched to the Alpha Gardens Apartments, 1695 Mary Jane Drive, near Owens Avenue and Nellis Boulevard. Arriving officers found a victim, identified only as an adult man, suffering from apparent gunshot wounds and lying in a parking lot, police said in a news release.

The victim was taken to the University Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead, police said.

Homicide investigators have determined that the victim was riding a bicycle east on Owens Avenue when a newer model, black pickup truck pulled up next to him, according to the release. An unknown suspect inside the pickup fired multiple shots at the man before speeding away. The victim stumbled into a parking lot nearby where he collapsed from his injuries, the release said.

The Clark County coroner will release the identity of the deceased along with the cause and manner of death.

No information about the shooter was made available.

Metro said anyone with information can call police at 702-828-3521 or anonymously call Crime Stoppers at 702-383-5555.
