Police identify moped rider who was killed Saturday night

The man hit by a vehicle and killed while riding a moped in North Las Vegas on Saturday night has been identified by the Clark County coroner.

Thomas Earl Phillips, 24, of Las Vegas was riding a moped south on Las Vegas Boulevard at Hamilton Street about 9 p.m. when he was struck by a Toyota Camry driven by David Coleman, 35, a release from North Las Vegas police said.

Coleman left the scene but was later taken into custody without incident. Alcohol appears to be a factor in this crash and witness reports say that Coleman was traveling at a high speed.

Coleman was arrested and booked for felony driving under the influence resulting in death, felony duty to stop at the scene of an accident resulting in death and felony reckless driving resulting in death, the release said.
