Police: Vegas school bus driver sexually assaulted autistic 10-year-old

The alleged victim of a Clark County School District substitute school bus driver charged with sexually assault in November was a 10-year-old autistic girl, according to an arrest report.

Ramiro Garcia, 52, was booked into the Clark County Detention Center on Nov. 21 on two counts of sexual assault against a child under 14, three counts of lewdness with a child under 14 and one count of child abuse. He was initially held without bail, released after posting just $5,000 bail because of a data error and then re-arrested. He remains in jail with bail set at $500,000.

According to the report, Garcia arrived 30 minutes late to drop the child at home on Nov. 20, telling a babysitter they were late because the child did not know the address. The girl allegedly told of the assault after the sitter promised a trip to Disneyland.

A sweater the girl wore to school that day was later found on Garcia's bus, which did not have a surveillance camera, police said. He was arrested at his home the following day.

The charges involve one child, but police said they want parents who think their children might have been victimized to call detectives. Garcia filled in for regular drivers on northeast valley bus routes.
