Power goes out for parts of Southern Nevada

Several areas throughout Southern Nevada lost power Sunday, according to updates from NV Energy and Overton Power District #5.

NV Energy reported more than 1,000 homes had lost power in Clark County at around 3:30 p.m., and by 4 p.m. almost 2,800 homes were without power across the valley and in several towns to the south.

Overton Power, which provides energy to homes in Overton, Moapa and Mesquite, reported via Facebook that its entire power grid blacked out about 3 p.m., because a power pole at a substation caught fire. The company indicated that repairs could last through midnight.

Outages in Las Vegas began clearing up after 5 p.m., and as of 7 p.m. NV Energy’s website reported that fewer than 300 homes were still without power
