Safety workshop to raise funds for Las Vegas victims

A local non-profit organization is hosting an educational safety workshop on Wednesday and asking attendees to donate to the Las Vegas victims’ fund instead of paying a workshop fee.

“After the horrific and tragic event that took place on Oct. 1, we feel it is extremely important for everyone to have the tools and awareness to protect themselves, and others, in a crisis or disaster situation,” said Kalyn Harrison, an American Dream U spokeswoman.

The non-profit is partnering with Nevada Benefits Corporation to host the personal safety workshop between 6:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Heinrich YMCA, 4141 Meadows Lane. All ages are encouraged to attend.

A SWAT operator and a retired special operations combat veteran, who will lead the workshop, will focus on basic safety, crisis preparation and threat awareness and assessment.

The non-profit is asking all participants donate a minimum of $25 to the official Las Vegas shooting victims’ fund set up by Clark County. The first $5,000 in donations will be matched by Nevada Benefits Corporation.

More details about the workshop can be found online at www.facebook.com/americanDreamu.
