Spiegelworld sues the Cosmopolitan

Producer Spiegelworld filed a breach-of-contract lawsuit Wednesday that accuses The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas of “sabotaging” the “Vegas Nocturne” show and shuttering its performances at the Strip resort.

The lawsuit, filed in Clark County District Court, also claims The Cosmopolitan refused to honor its obligation “to pay severance payments to the newly unemployed performance artists and for the return travel of these unique artists who traveled from all over the world to perform” at the resort.

In addition, the lawsuit accuses The Cosmopolitan of wrongfully confiscating show property, including costumes and props.

According to the lawsuit, the Rose.Rabbit.Lie supper club and “Vegas Nocturne” debuted to the public on Dec. 31. The document claims The Cosmopolitan violated its agreement with Spiegelworld with the early termination of the show on July 13.

The resort released the following statement Wednesday: “While it is typically The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas’ policy not to comment on pending litigation, the plaintiff’s lawsuit is entirely without merit. We will vigorously defend our position and expect to prevail.”
