Stranded Red Rock hikers able to walk out with rescuers
Two hikers stranded in a Red Rock Canyon gully Saturday were able to walk out with rescuers that night, police said.
Due to concerns over wind and rain, Metro Search and Rescue was unable to use a helicopter in the rescue, police said. Instead, responders trekked five hours on foot to where the hikers were stranded, Metro Lt. Jeff Goodwin said.
Metro said the call came in about 8:30 a.m. Saturday. Police thought rescue units might have to camp out with the hikers overnight due to concerns about weather and the condition of the hikers, but they were able to walk out together.
No injuries were reported and the hikers were in good condition, according to police.
