Two people killed in single-vehicle wreck late Saturday

A car slammed into two light poles in the central valley Saturday night, taking the lives of two men, Las Vegas police said.
The two people killed, a 31-year-old North Las Vegas man who was driving and a 27-year-old Las Vegas man riding in the car, died at the scene on West Charleston Boulevard, near the Mohawk Road intersection, according to a news release. They will be identified by the Clark County coroner's office.
Emergency crews responded to the crash at 11:21 p.m., police said. A 2005 Hyundai XG350 had been speeding in a westbound lane when the driver lost control, police said. Investigators determined this by the tire friction marks on the road.
The four-door car jumped a curb onto a sidewalk and smashed into two light poles before coming to a rest on the road and median, police said. No one else was injured.
Their deaths mark the 122nd and 123rd traffic fatalities in the Metropolitan Police Department's jurisdiction this year. Metro investigated 92 fatalities in its jurisdiction in 2014 and 113 in 2013. Four days remain in 2015.
