Valley may see more storms, flash floods for Monday
It's September, but the monsoon rains aren't quite over for the Las Vegas Valley.
The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood watch from 9 a.m. today until 5 a.m. Tuesday for Southern Nevada. The watch area also includes eastern California and northwest Arizona.
The agency says a low-pressure system approaching from the south will combine with increasing monsoon moisture to create the potential for thunderstorms and flash floods this afternoon and evening.
The valley has been hit with several rounds of monsoon rains this summer, as recently as last week. On Aug. 22, parts of the valley were hit by flash flooding, leading to one death.
McCarran International Airport received about 2 inches of rain during that storm, with some areas getting more.
