Valley to stay warm, with chance of rain at week’s end

Saturday was another warm one for Las Vegas, but there's lightning at the end of this very sunny tunnel.

Afternoon temperatures Saturday climbed to 93 degrees, exactly 10 degrees higher than the normal for this time of year, National Weather Service meteorologist John Salmen said.

Sunday is expected to see highs reach about 91 degrees before temperatures fall to 70 degrees overnight, Salmen said.

Monday and Tuesday should see afternoon highs about 94 degrees, with nighttime temperatures dropping to about 70.

Potential for showers will come at the end of the week, when a storm off the Baja coast could be pulled into the southwest U.S., Salmen said. Early weather model predictions have lows dropping back into the upper 80s Thursday and Friday, with a 20 percent to 30 percent chance for rain.

But it's too early to say with certainty that the valley will see moisture.

At least for the start of the week, "we're really not looking at anything at all," Salmen said.
