Vegas DAV chapter gives 2 vans to VA

Nevada’s Disabled American Veteran chapter will donate two Ford Flex vans Thursday to the Veterans Affairs Southern Nevada Healthcare System so local veterans will have transportation to area VA facilities.

The new vehicles will be added to the existing fleet of 25 that in a year’s span ending in April traveled 307,430 miles to take 8,617 veterans to their appointments while volunteers racked up 28,967 service hours, according to VA spokesman Richard Beam.

He said the keys will be handed over to local VA officials during a ceremony Thursday morning at the VA Medical Center in North Las Vegas to coincide with this week’s National Disabled American Veterans convention on the Strip.
