Windy weather hampering rescue of two Red Rock hikers

Metro Search and Rescue is attempting to rescue two hikers from a gully in Red Rock Canyon, police said Saturday night.

According to police, two experienced hikers in a Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area gully and were unable to return. Due to concerns over the windy weather, Metro Search and Rescue have attempted to trek out to the hikers on foot, Metro Lt. Jeff Goodwin said.

Goodwin said rescue units had been attempting to reach the hikers since 9 a.m. Saturday. After about five hours of hiking, the rescue units reached the two lost hikers, but due to their “frail” condition, the rescue units may have to wait until the two can recover enough to make the return hike, Goodwin said.

No more details were immediately available.
