Woman found slain in Las Vegas apartment; suspect arrested in California
December 5, 2015 - 6:14 pm
A woman was found slain in an apartment Saturday morning, and a man with whom she was in a "dating relationship" was arrested in California shortly afterward, Las Vegas police said.
The man was arrested without incident by California police in San Bernardino, and Las Vegas detectives were en route to speak with him Saturday night, Metro Lt. Dan McGrath said. The man is expected to be charged in the woman's death.
The man called several family members and told them "something bad had happened" and that he had "hurt someone," McGrath said. Police found the woman's body about 10:30 a.m. at Rancho Verde Apartments, 98 S. Martin Luther King Blvd., near the Bonanza Road intersection.
She was stabbed multiple times, McGrath said. The man's family became concerned with the phone calls and alerted Metro to conduct a welfare check.
Family told police that the man, who was not identified Saturday, was in California, McGrath said. He will be extradited to Clark County.
It wasn't immediately clear if the woman, described only as being over 50 years old, was killed Friday night or Saturday morning, McGrath said. She will be identified by the Clark County coroner's office.
This was the 119th homicide Metro has investigated in 2015 compared with 121 last year, McGrath said.
