Woman killed in Las Vegas’ first traffic fatality of 2016 identified

The woman killed in the first traffic-related fatality in the Metropolitan Police Department's jurisdiction for 2016 has been identified by the Clark County coroner.

Sherri Green, 56, was crossing South Durango Drive, south of West Edna Avenue, outside of a marked crosswalk about 9:15 p.m. when she was struck by a Jeep Wrangler southbound on Durango, Las Vegas police said.

The Jeep's driver remained at the scene and reported the crash to police. The driver was not cited, and police do not believe speed, alcohol or drugs factored in the collision, Metro Sgt. Richard Strader said at the scene Sunday night.

"This is not the first auto-ped collision we've had on that stretch of Durango," Strader said, recalling one that occurred last year south of Sunday's crash.

The crash occurred just south of Starboard Drive, which has a signal and a marked crosswalk.

"We're talking 500 feet from that crosswalk," Strader said. "People are taking the easy way out on these roadways, and it's very frustrating for us to see these over and over and over again."

Medical personnel pronounced Green dead at the scene, police said.
