Woman killed, man hurt after truck strikes them

Las Vegas police said a woman was killed, and a man was critically injured, after they were struck by a pickup Friday morning.

Police said the accident happened about 1:45 a.m. on Boulder Highway at the intersection of Harmon Avenue.

A 52-year-old woman, who was not identified, and John Salvo Jr., 58, were struck by a 1998 Chevrolet pickup driven by Rebecca Odonald, 21.

The woman died at Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center. Salvo was in critical condition. Although both were in a crosswalk, they did not have the right of way, police said.

The Clark County coroner's office will identify the dead woman.

It was the 69th traffic fatality in the Metropolitan Police Department's jurisdiction this year.
