Updated October 6, 2025 - 3:59 pm

A motorcyclist was arrested on suspicion of DUI after a woman using a mobility scooter was killed in a crash Friday night in the west Las Vegas Valley, police said.

The crash happened about just before 8 p.m. on South Torrey Pines Drive, north of Hyde Avenue, the Metropolitan Police Department said in a news release.

The the Clark County coroner’s office identified the woman on the scooter Monday as Jodie Collins-Wells, 78, of Las Vegas. She died of blunt force injuries, according to the coroner.

The crash happened when a 2007 Suzuki GSXR-600 motorcycle heading south on Torrey Pines at a “high rate of speed” collided with the woman’s mobility scooter that was crossing Torrey Pines “outside of a marked or implied crosswalk,” police said.

After the crash, Collins-Wells was transported to University Medical Center where she later died, police said.

The motorcycle driver, identified as Darin McCuistion, 58, of Las Vegas, “displayed signs of impairment” and was arrested, the news release said.

McCuistion was also transported to UMC for “suspected serious injuries,” police said.

According to Las Vegas Justice Court records, McCuistion faces charges including DUI resulting in death and reckless driving.

Collins-Wells’ death marked the 120th traffic-related fatality in Metro’s jurisdiction in 2025.

A previous version of this story misspelled McCuistion’s last name.
