Arizona man sentenced in long-distance murder

KINGMAN, Ariz. — A northwest Arizona man who killed his ex-girlfriend’s new fiance in the Midwest was given a life prison sentence in Douglas County, Wis., on Monday.

Juan Padilla, 43, of Fort Mohave, pleaded guilty in August to first-degree intentional homicide.

District Attorney Daniel Blank provided a criminal complaint that alleged Padilla became upset when his girlfriend broke off their relationship in April 2013 in favor of her new partner, Terrence Lukkonnen, 46. The complaint alleged that Padilla threatened Lukkonnen’s life before he killed him the next month.

The complaint said that Lukkonnen was shot in the head while seated in his parked vehicle in the city of Superior.
