Arizonan pleads no contest in wife’s death

KINGMAN, Ariz. — A mentally troubled Lake Havasu City resident pleaded no contest Thursday for the February 2012 murder of his wife.

Micaiah Gray, 35, was convicted of second-degree murder in the blunt force trauma death of Raquel Gray, 27, at their former residence in the 3600 block of Hollister Drive.

Mohave County Superior Court Judge Derek Carlisle sent Gray to a Tucson facility for mental health rehabilitation in February 2013 after experts determined he was not competent to stand trial. Gray was returned to Kingman eight months later after doctors reported he had been restored to competency.

Public Defender Harry Moore informed the court Thursday that evidence against his client is overwhelming and he felt the no contest plea was the best course of action.

Gray faces a 10- to 22-year prison term when sentenced Oct. 24.

Prosecutor Jeremy Huss said the victim had been strangled and suffered broken ribs and a fractured back.
