Legislation introduced to rename Laughlin VA clinic for Navy vet

WASHINGTON — The Laughlin VA Health Clinic would be renamed under legislation introduced in Congress Thursday to honor the late Jesse Dean, a Navy veteran and prominent member of American Legion Post 60.

Dean, who died June 1, 2014, was a highly decorated Vietnam War veteran who served 27 years in the Navy before retiring in 1992. He then settled in Laughlin and joined the American Legion where he was revered by fellow members for his selfless service and dedication.

Rep. Joe Heck, R-Nev., introduced the bill to name the clinic the Master Chief Petty Officer Jesse Dean Department of Veterans Affairs Community Based Outpatient Clinic. Reps. Mark Amodei, R-Nev., and Cresent Hardy, R-Nev., are co-sponsoring.

"While I did not have the privilege of knowing Master Chief Jesse Dean, it is clear from speaking with community members and veterans in Laughlin that naming the new VA health clinic in his honor is a fitting tribute," Heck said.
