Man dies after chase, gunfire, crash in Carson City

CARSON CITY — Nevada authorities say a chase has ended in Carson City with the death of a suspect following gunfire and a crash.

Officials say the suspect’s car hit a divider on U.S. 50 and spun off the highway Saturday after a Carson City deputy sheriff fired one shotgun round and state troopers set up tire-puncturing spikes near Carlson City-Lyon County line.

According to officials, the suspect died at the scene. The Nevada Appeal reports he shot himself in the head after a standoff.

The suspect’s identity wasn’t released but authorities said he was sought on a California parole-violation warrant.

Officials said the pursuit started in Storey County when the suspect wouldn’t pull over and that it continued as the suspect ran a red light and clipped another vehicle, causing minor damage.
