North Las Vegas police arrest man after finding pipe bomb in home

Several homes were evacuated and a 45-year-old man was arrested after a pipe bomb was discovered in a North Las Vegas residence.

“We responded and it was an actual pipe bomb,” North Las Vegas police spokesman Eric Leavitt said Friday.

North Las Vegas police were called about 9:30 p.m. Thursday to a home on the 2200 block of Constance Avenue, near West Carey Avenue and Clayton Street, after a report of loud noises coming from a nearby home.

Police discovered a pipe bomb inside the home, evacuated four or five homes in each side of the residence and requested the help of the Metropolitan Police Department’s ARMOR unit, which rendered the bomb safe “a few hours later,” Leavitt said.

Christopher Robinson was arrested on suspicion of two counts of possession, manufacture, or disposal of an explosive or incendiary device, North Las Vegas police said in a news release. Robinson’s bail was set at $20,000 for each charge.

Leavitt wasn’t sure how or at exactly when the ARMOR officers disabled the bomb, he said.

“Sometimes they use a water cannon, sometimes they blow it up,” Leavitt said. “I’m not sure, but they rendered it safe.”

Residents were allowed back into their homes before 8 a.m. and investigators left the scene about 10 a.m., Leavitt said.
