Uber delivering free ice cream, but people are still complaining

A few Uber subscribers in Las Vegas took to Twitter on Friday to complain that ice cream wasn’t delivered to their neighborhoods.

Uber Support’s Twitter account simply responded, “We’re experiencing high demand — keep trying.”

The ride-sharing company started dispatching drivers at 11 a.m. to deliver ice cream throughout the Las Vegas Valley as part of a four-hour promotion to celebrate National Ice Cream Month.

More than 2,000 vanilla ice cream bars dipped in milk chocolate, donated by Magnum Ice Cream, were handed out to Las Vegans who placed an order on Uber’s smartphone app.

“The demand is really high, so we have drivers completing as many requests as possible,” Uber spokeswoman Maui Cheska Orozco said.

“That’s all we can do, so the wait times will probably be a little longer,” Orozco said. “We weren’t anticipating the number of requests coming through, but we will do our best to make sure the requests are met while supplies last.”

About 200 ice cream bars were set aside for several “surprise stops,” including Nevada Highway Patrol, Metropolitan Police Department headquarters and to children participating in summer camp at Mirabelli Community Center, Orozco said.

Uber drivers who opted to help with deliveries on Friday were paid by the hour and also got some free ice cream, Orozco said. And of course, tips were accepted.
